Pure joy...
Have you experienced pure joy? Something that completely releases your mind/body/spirit from any worry, doubt, fear, sorrow, or pain? The moment where nothing else matters and you are truly happy and content? Maybe it's seeing your kid smile, bunny hopping the CX barrier, climax, or shooting up... everyone is different.
Today I witnessed pure joy at Starbucks.
As I walked into the store, there was a woman at the pasty counter who just got a treat handed to her. She was prolly 250lbs and blocked the path to get to the coffee area, so I had to stop. She had gotten a doughnut (yes, SB’s sells doughnuts now) and was preparing to take a bite. As she raised the sugar coated doughnut to her lips, she slowly closed her eyes and ever so slightly extended her neck to meet the treat. She took a bite in what can only be described as a sensual way and slowly masticated the sweetened dough as if it was her life essence. I swear I saw a thread of saliva extend and snap back to her mouth as she lowered the doughnut away from her. As she slowly chewed her head swayed slightly from side to side. This whole process took prolly 7 or 8 seconds, the entire time her eyes were close and she was not present but off experiencing pure joy.
As I watched her, I could see it wash over her as she tasted the sweetness. I almost felt like I was intruding on a private moment and should apologize with some "I thought the door was locked" excuse.
When the bite was done, she slowly opened her eyes, came back to reality and the Starbucks at
I said "that looked like it tasted pretty good".
To which she said "It did" and smiled.
